Learning objectives

  • Legality issues
    1. Students will understand how to design web pages and other materials that follow copyright law and fair use guidelines.  This includes the proper use of graphic images and other material obtained on the web.
    2. Students will be able to design web pages that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Students will learn how to create web pages that are accessible to people with various disabilities, including blindness, etc.
    3. Students will be aware of the definition of sexual harassment, what behavior is considered unacceptable, and what they should do in case they are subject to sexual harassment on the UC Davis campus.
  • Working with images:  Students will be able to use Freehand and Fireworks to create basic graphic images suitable for use in web pages and PowerPoint presentations.

Student preparation task (due Friday):

Plan at least five graphic items to create for you web pages or presentation.  Graphic items can include buttons, navigation bars, banners, photographic montages, drawings, charts, or any other kind of illustration.  Decide what file format to use for each piece and write the reason behind your choice on the sketch.  For items containing text, consider what kind of font is appropriate.  Note the color scheme of your designs.
